The Installation Process

From the first step to the last, installation of a solar system takes 7 to 9 weeks. The timeline below outlines the necessary steps to help you Go Solar and begin earning revenue with MicroFIT.

Free Solar Assessment (1-2 days)

  • Conduct a virtual site visit via satellite plus high-resolution aerial photography
  • Deliver site proposal – use solar estimating software to determine the optimal system for your location with estimated MicroFIT revenue and price range
  • Estimate the solar exposure and the potential income of the system using RETScreen® Clean Energy Project Analysis Software
  • Send email with site photo, roof area and slope, site size and revenue, price range and detailed MicroFIT/FIT info

Site Visit (<1 week)

(Nominal fee based on location, applicable towards purchase price)

  • Conduct shade analysis using the Solar Pathfinder and/or appropriate tools
  • Conduct structural engineering review
  • Provide detailed quotation, including projected revenue/ROI calculation for 20-year OPA contract

Client Approval

Payment: 50% deposit on approval

Permit & OPA Applications

  • Submit MicroFIT Application for OPA approval on your behalf (4-6 weeks*)
  • Deliver stamped engineering drawing of roof installation
  • Submit building permit applications on your behalf (1-2 weeks)
  • Submit ESA electrical permit applications on your behalf (1 week)

*FIT projects over 10kW have additional steps, including engineering and impact assessments.

Installation (+/- 1 week, depending on weather)

Payment: 40% payment due

  • Update roof, if required**
  • Install mounting system
  • Install solar panels
  • Install electrical components

**EfstonScience will recommend contractors for structural or roofing upgrades

Inspection (1-2 weeks)

  • Co-ordinate building inspections
  • Co-ordinate ESA electrical inspection
  • Co-ordinate with the local utility to install a Hydro meter

Power Up! (1-2 weeks)

10% balance due

  • Commission system
  • Follow up with OPA and Hydro to start MicroFIT contract
